Speaking of after-camp travel! How long do they normally give you on your visa to travel afterwards? Does it change from year to year? Thanks! :)

I was under the impression the J1 Visa lasts for 5 months. So depending on how long you are at camp will determine how long you have to travel. So if you do 9 weeks at camp, you will have approximately 11 weeks to travel afterwards.. If you do 12 weeks at camp then roughly 8 weeks etc.

Thanks! A month or two seems like enough time to see at least a few states. 8)

Hey all,

To weigh in on the Visa question, the J-1 Visa gives you 3 months in the states, plus a one month grace period. Basically, during this grace period you cant leave the states, if you want to come back in. For example, during your 3 months, you can hop the border to Canada and Mexico, and get back in fine, but during the grace period, you wont be allowed back in. So that would suck.

Have fun!

hehe i only got an email from the camp director saying that my appl had been passed thru the camp by CA and that they really liked it. He told me about the camp and gave the website, and also put in some questions for me to answer- like problem solving ones, but saying there are no right or wrong answers, its just to see how i'd respond to certain problems. He said if i reply to them, i will get a call later in the week from the camp...

the camp is called Forrestel Farm, Riding and sports camp. Has extensive horseriding programs in it, but other sports too which is good. The questions arent too bad. pretty much what would you do if you saw two boys fighting and you were the only counselor around? What would you do of you were feeling crap and not in a good mood- like if you'd recieved bad news from home, and your campers were being rowdy...what would u do in a situation where damaged activity equipment was being using- like rope climbing equipment, and you become nervous about it, but the other counselor starts making fun of you.... there are still a few others- mostly to do about horse riding and children not doing what they should be doing. I've answered some of the questions.

I'm afraid of them too!! I'm gald i wasnt asked anything like that at the interview! I need time to think about them.
I did apply for the horseriding side of things, but Im glad its not just horse riding, i wanna be able to be involved with other activities too.
How far along are you with all this stuff??

I just looked at the camp it looks awesome!!
Guessing you must be a really good rider if you got accepted!!
I've been wanting to do this whole thing since it first opened (well prob a month b4 that!) and I'm going with CCUSA and they have an essay that you have to write. Well I took forever to write it and FINALLY I got it done =) I got my dad to proof read it and he was like that doesnt sound right re-word that and after much debating we finally finished it =)
So now I have an interview tomorrow at 10am!!! REALLY EXCITED! But really scared cos I really don't want those types of questions at my interview!!!
I also just got my pic taken for these silly photos we need (well CCUSA) need and they're SO ugly and I don't want the camp directors to see me like that!! But I can't be bothered getting new ones cos they cost me $12 and I have NO money as it is!!! pretty devo hey lol

I thought the whole essay thing is a good idea. Do you pretty much just have to write about yourself and why you want to spend the summer at camp?? I felt that the questions in the CA application didnt let me express more about myself- mostly coz its only 500 characters, and i guess they dont want huge answers on everything!
I havent exactly been accepted yet! But they seemed heaps interested from what they said in the email.
All the best with your interview. If you need any advice with regards to questions, i'd be glad to help, however the CCUSA interviews may be a bit different to the CA ones.
