Hey guys, just thought I'd join in your convo! Just think though, if they are rich kids with rich kids you are gonna get a massive tip from the parents at the end of camp and that will definately help with your travelling.
I'm working at Summit Camp in Pennsylvania as the dance specialist. worked there last year as a general counsellor and had the time of my life. Me camp is a special needs camp so there is bout 300 staff and mostly all are international so it's great meeting heaps of people. Am heading to canada after camp this year to work at Big White ski resort so im pumped to get going!
I just went on the camp french woods website, that looks awesome!
By the way is anyone else having trouble making their way round the site coz everything is written in bloody German!

I've always had trouble getting round this site cos its in german lol

I was told in my contract that I wasn't allowed to accept tips from the campers parents (do they honestly tip you? wow that would be pretty cool spesh if they were rich and think they would give you a large tip-bring on the spending money lol)

My camp has 3 international staff so I think it's novelty to have international staff at camp! I'm also a general counsellor and my camp is shadow rim ranch!

I'm going on a contiki through europe after camp to make the most of my trip over there lol
liz how long u staying in canada for?

well i guess if it's in your contract then u cant except tips. that sux! at my camp last year most parents tipped (they only tipped counsellors tho) and it depends on your unit leader but my unit leader put all of our unit's tips in together and then split it fairly. was really handy.

have u been to camp b4?

oh i so wish i could afford to go to europe! i dont even know how im going to afford this trip lol

im trying to arrange a job in canada atm so will hopefully be there at least 6 months. assuming i start working at the resort in november i have bot 2 months to kill in between camp and going over to canada. last year 7 of us from camp hired a van and did a road trip down the east coast, had the best time!

I'll have to ask camp if I will be able to take the tips! bahahhahahhahaha would be good if I could get some tips!

I can't afford the trip I'm loaning money off my parents lol but I have to pay them back so techincally I am paying for it just in time lol

my friends doing the winter program thing and his is costing him a fortune!!! and by wat he was telling me u get paid sh!t and have to pay for ur own accomodation! oh well i would still love to do it lol

From the gist of things on the main CA forums it seems that most camps don't allow us to accept tips or gifts from campers or their parents.

I wouldn't rely on it anyway, but it would be a nice bonus though!

As for working in Canada, for Australians, a 2 year working holiday visa for Canada is a whopping $165 and can be done almost entirely online.

Ive heard its better to work in the smaller ski fields rather than big ones like Whistler. Apparently the small ones pay better, with ebtter working conditions and the cost of living is less.

I have a similar plan after camp, heading to Canada. Thinking I'll probably stick to the main cities (heading to Montreal first.. hopefully I pick up the French language quickly!) and maybe just have a few trips from there into the snow.

$157? That seems really good, when I went it was more than $200. Suppose it all changes with the Aussie Dollar, and its rockin atm!

Yeah I'm tempted to change some money over now, bout $1000 or so.. Basically what I plan to take with me in cash to last until the end of camp.

I want to see if it gets closer to the AUD though, for every cent it goes up, I get an extra $10 if I'm changing $1000. Could be the easiest $100 I ever made if I wait and see if it actually reaches it. But for every cent it goes down I lose $10.

It's like a horrible tortuous way of gambling.

I cant wait to go and laugh at a mate tonight, who PROMISED me, absolutely GUARANTEED me, that when it was about 88c a while ago that I should change ALL my money as our $$ just simply WOULD NOT get stronger.

Mmm that will be sweet tonight.

Leon,

Even better idea... Buy some money now, even if its not a full grand, and just take that to his place and slap him in the face with it, and claim that his face slapping only hurts as much as it does because he was wrong about the Aussie dollar, and if he was in fact right, and bought the cash when he suggested, then you would have less to slap him with...

I hope that makes sense, it did to me... Man I mite go get me a buttload of cash to slap people with.. Fun times
